About Us

How Brilliant Being came into being

Obesity is a chronic condition that causes physical and psychological harm to many people.

Trying to reduce weight is a journey many patients have been on before, perhaps reaching the destination, then checking out and ending up back where they started. For others, nothing ever seems to work.

Endocrinologist, A/Professor Roland McCallum understands all of this and much more besides. He was frustrated with the limited help he could provide patients on his own and saw the need for a specialist multi-disciplinary medical weight loss service.

That realisation prompted Roland to start practicing team-based medical weight loss alongside his other commitments. His approach, based on the methodology of Emeritus Professor Joe Proietto, includes a combination of support, lifestyle changes and medication. There is a full support team available to access.

Roland set up practice within a medical facility that offered complementary health professionals, including nurses, a psychologist, an exercise physiologist and a dietician.

Very soon, demand for Roland's weight loss service outstripped supply. A steady flow of referrals from GPs and specialists meant waiting times increased to an unacceptable level. To overcome this bottleneck, Roland reached out to other GPs in Tasmania, eventually hiring two highly qualified doctors to work with him – tripling the capacity of the service.

Brilliant Being is the culmination of this journey with a dedicated location and team. Roland and the team are delighted to welcome you to be part of the Brilliant Being experience.
