Working with Hobart Exercise Physiology
At Brilliant Being, we work closely with Hobart Exercise Physiology to support patients managing their weight and metabolic health.
Hobart Exercise Physiology is a locally owned practice in South Hobart, led by Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) - university-qualified allied health professionals accredited through Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA). They design individually tailored exercise programs for people living with a range of chronic and complex conditions, including those related to weight and metabolic health.
By combining the medical and multidisciplinary care we provide with structured, professionally supervised exercise, you can access a coordinated approach that considers both the medical and lifestyle sides of your care. Working together, we aim to help you:
build safe and sustainable physical activity habits
make exercise part of your broader, individualised care plan
work towards improved general health, strength and function
Referrals and care are always based on your individual circumstances and clinical needs. To discuss whether this approach might suit you, speak with your treating practitioner at Brilliant Being.

What makes Brilliant Being different?
Our clinic provides a science-based, holistic approach to weight loss. Patients are seen by a team of GPs with a special interest in obesity management.
Each patient’s individual situation, behaviours and aspirations are assessed, appropriate pharmacy-only drugs are prescribed and triggers for weight gain are identified. It is an individualised program with regular nursing reviews.
Who is Brilliant Being for?
Brilliant Being supports individuals looking to improve their health and wellbeing through sustainable weight management strategies.
We acknowledge that obesity is a complex, chronic condition that can be associated with various health challenges. Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight can be difficult, and evidence suggests that professional support can play an important role in long-term success.
At Brilliant Being, we offer a holistic, patient-centred approach that includes access to qualified health professionals. Our team provides evidence-based guidance, including medical consultations and support from accredited dietitians, psychologists, and a diabetes educator, where clinically appropriate.
Is obesity caused by a slow metabolism?
Some people think that their weight is a result of 'slow metabolism', but many studies show that people with excess weight often have a normal metabolic rate. Instead, weight gain is caused by excess energy intake driven by genetics and hunger hormones.
What should you expect on your first appointment?
At Brilliant Being, we recognise that every individual has unique health needs. Your first appointment will be with our nurse, who will guide you through the initial steps of your weight management plan.
During this appointment, the nurse will take baseline measurements and conduct an assessment of your body composition. If clinically indicated, they may provide guidance on arranging follow-up appointments with relevant health professionals within our team.
You will also receive information about the program and, if required, a pathology request form for further assessment.
What follow up can I expect?
During your check-in, our team will monitor your body composition or record your weight depending on whether you attend monthly or weekly, and provide general guidance tailored to your goals. If further appointments with other health professionals are required, we can discuss options and assist in arranging them based on your needs and availability.
